Dr. Debashish Das is a reputed Paediatrician from Shillong, the city where he was born and raised. Dr. Das’s passion for quality child healthcare and commitment towards his profession led to the foundation of The Children’s Hospital, the first-ever hospital for children in the North-east where he presently practises.
Dr. Das is qualified in MD (Paediatrics). On completion of his pre-university course from St. Edmund’s College (Shillong), Dr. Das pursued MBBS from Silchar Medical College (Assam). Furthermore, he completed his post graduation in Paediatrics from Assam Medical College (Dibrugarh) followed by Fellowship in Neonatology from Maulana Azad Medical College (New Delhi). Inspite of securing a post at Silchar Medical College (Assam), Dr. Das paid heed to his inner voice seeking to serve the people of his state. He therefore headed back to Shillong and joined Nazareth Hospital, a premier medical institution in Meghalaya and subsequently Woodland Hospital, till 2009.
A Life Member of Indian Academy of Paediatrics and National Neonatology Forum, Dr. Das played a pivotal role in the formation of The Meghalaya State Chapter of The Indian Academy of Paediatrics. In 2009, Dr. Das was overwhelmed with the plan to set up a children’s hospital in the region where they would be treated in an environment similar to home. His idea was to create a hospital setting where children would be comfortable and not fearful in the given surroundings. Thus the aforementioned hospital was established where facilities and treatment in paediatric care are provided at affordable costs. Inorder to make the hospital experience pleasurable for children it is equipped with a playpen consisting of an array of toys, besides other attractions.
Besides child care, Dr. Das is also deeply involved in various philanthropic activities as an active member of Rotary Club of Shillong.
